In another sign of Middle Tennessee’s improving economic conditions, the Tennessee Career Center in Dickson has announced a job fair to be held on Thursday, May 16, from Noon to 5 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce and Workforce Essentials, will be held at the Career Center at 250 Beasley Drive in Dickson. Anyone seeking employment is encouraged to attend.

“We have a range of employers who have positions to fill immediately, from entry level to professional,” said Peter Toth, veterans’ employment representative at the Tennessee Career Center in Dickson. “These are top local companies spanning a number of sectors, and we’re excited to have dozens of openings to offer to people in the area.”

Recent data shows that Dickson County’s unemployment rate is at its lowest point since 2008, down two percent year-over-year to 7.7% in February. The number of unemployed people living in Dickson County decreased by nearly 25% last year, and key job gains in the Nashville market were in manufacturing, trade, transportation and utilities, information, professional/business services, education/health services and leisure/hospitality.

Dickson County Chamber of Commerce President David Hamilton says the county is feeling the momentum across a number of key indicators, including real estate activity and sales tax collections. This job fair is welcome news after the Recession.

“When we have this many companies ready to hire, that’s a great sign for Dickson County’s future,” Hamilton said. “We’re seeing a lot of positive momentum.”

Interested candidates should bring copies of their resumes and any other pertinent information, including letters of reference, with them to the fair.
